Co Lab is course in Maryland Institute College of Art where students participate in a 5+ year project using biomaterials for marine habitat restoration.

Collaborating with scientists and engineers outside the institution, our team’s focus was to design the structure and research the material for carbon negative biocement.

!DISCLAIMER!

I joined the multi-year project later, so there are more people who participated in this project that I did not have the good fortune to meet.

This only represents people I worked with the most. Please note that it may not encompass the entire team. If you were part of the project and wish to be included, let me know!

[ THANKS TO ]

For 2021-2022, Co Lab course was not offered officially, but we still met weekly to research the best material for biocement and casting.

In the academic year of 2021-2022, we dedicated our efforts to discovering the recipe for biocement. By experimenting with various forms of aragonite, we successfully produced cement sample tiles. Our method involved utilizing soil bacteria to calcify sand.

Special thanks to the instructor Ryan Hoover, and wonderful teammates Alia Payne and Danielle Kunkel.
